Easy & Natural Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring is officially at our doorstep, which means it’s time for one of our favorite activities here at Real Purity – spring cleaning!
If you’re a cleaning fanatic but you've already got images of 409 and Scrubbing Bubbles filling your head, then you’re in luck. We also love to clean, but because we don’t love soaking our home in unhealthy fragrances and potentially irritating, toxic chemicals, we’ve put together a list of our favorite natural spring cleaning tips.
Why Spring Clean?
First, why spring clean? This seemingly overused phrase comes around every year, but is there really a particular benefit to spring cleaning your home? The answer, according to this article in Readers Digest, is yes. If you’re prone to allergies or asthma, for instance, clearing out those dust bunnies from wintertime can have an immediate impact on clearing your airways. Homes that feel cluttered or are filled with unfinished projects can also lead to depression & anxiety, while moving around your home to clean unexpected areas can also introduce a welcome source of additional exercise – which can feel really good after being stuck inside all winter. So yes, spring cleaning absolutely has worthy benefits that are worth the effort.
Now that you know spring cleaning is worth it, how can properly reap all the benefits? By using our natural tips below, of course.
Lemons
Our first tip for you is one word: lemons. Lemons are antifungal, antibacterial, antibiotic and antiviral, which means they are a great choice for natural home cleaning. Squeeze a lemon into a bucket of water and toss a rag in. Now you can wipe down and/or dust any surface in your home, followed by a dry rag to tidy up. Don't have a lemon? Use 10 drops of lemon essential oil or any citrus oil you have. If you stock up on natural cleaning supplies already, you can also add some natural soap to the water for an extra cleaning boost.
Almond Orange Oil
Is your house filled with wood that needs a touch of shine? No need to break out the dusting spray. Instead, polish your wood furniture naturally with almond orange oil. Mix 5 drops of orange essential oil into 2 ounces almond oil and polish furniture, dipping into the polish with a rag and buffing with a dry cloth. The almond oil protects the furniture while the orange oil revitalizes the wood. Voila!
Water + Vinegar
If any of your skin is most vulnerable to a particular surface, it would probably be your feet on the floor. So why not mop your floor in a safe and effective way? Use equal parts vinegar to water to create a mop bucket and add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil. We recommend rosemary and geranium for an uplifting, springtime scent and optimum freshness in your house, lemon or another citrus scent for an energizing air or lavender to relieve stress and anxiety.
Stuck with a full bucket of this mixture, even after mopping the floor? Don’t stop there! Clean your keyboard, burnish your scissors, clean your blinds, remove stains and more. For more ideas, check out this article here.
