Caring for your skin during the winter months

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

You only have one face, so you may as well take good care of it!

Winter time can take a toll on our skin. We’re closed indoors for most of it and the dry air can really take its toll! When we’re in our vehicles we normally have the defrost/heat on and that adds to the dry skin problem. We are out doors going to and from home, work, shopping, etc., and depending on temperatures, conditions and how long we are out can leave our skin feeling dry, raw & chapped. If one skiis, or walks outside for excercise or recreation it’s difficult to cover your entire face and neck from the elements – you have to see where you are going!

Lessons taught from Virginia many years ago are still true today regarding good skin care. She stressed that you must never go to bed without washing the days “grime” from your face & neck. Let that skin feel refreshed and able to breathe at night while you sleep.

I’ve followed this most of my life and once you are “trained” into your routine it’s very difficult to stray from it, even for one night! I can probably count on one hand how many times I went to bed without removing the “grime” and moisturizing my skin.

Always use the Real Purity cleanser, (rinsing well with warm water) and toner that is best for your skin type, dehydrated or oily/normal, after your skin has dried then apply the eye & throat creme above & below your eyes (careful to keep it out of your eyes) and on your neck area. If you take your fingertip and gently touch the skin under your eye and then your neck you’ll find that the skin texture is very similer, and one should always be gentle when applying any creme and not stretch or be too rough. Follow with your daily moisturizer or nightly moisturizer.

Once or twice a week it’s a good idea to use Real Purity facial scrub to exfoliate the dead skin cells so your skin can breath better. The routine would be then to scrub after you cleanse and before you tone.
Always use gentle upward circle moves with your fingertips while cleansing, using the facial scrub or moisturizing.

Using a masque once a week is a much deserved and needed addition to good skin care. It will help deep clean your skin pulling out debris that can get below that first epidermal surface, tone, tighten, moisturize or help with oil control & blemishs.

When you have the time to relax for a few minutes the masque routine is again simple. Cleanse first, then use the facial scrub, rinse your skin very well with warm water then pat your skin dry. Apply the masque that suits your skins needs keeping it out of your eyes. You can even apply it to the neck area. Relax for 20-30 minutes and remove with warm water, rinsing well, you can use a soft wash cloth or a facial sponge to remove if that is easier. Pat your skin dry and tone, moisturize and your ready to go!

One last note! Never scrub your skin with a wash cloth or towel roughly, always pat your skin dry. There are many muscles in the face & neck and you always want to be very gentle when taking care of it.
